News from Whitefish District Lions
...LIONS PEACE POSTER WINNERS

Students from R.H. Murray annually participate in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest. The theme this year was "OUR WORLD….OUR PEACE".

Whitefish District Lion members visited the school recently to judge the posters and again thrilled at the interpretation from the children. We're amazed with the different ideas from students and that's why the contest is so wonderful. Young people see things differently and we're anxious to see the creativity of each poster and this year was no different.

The first prize was awarded to Mackenzie Little a Grade 7 student from Whitefish. Second prize went to Mikaela Matthews a Grade 8 student also from our area. Our members and volunteers congratulate both of these winners. Thank you to all the participants and we look forward to next year.

December is a busy time for Whitefish District Lions members and volunteers. We assist at the annual Beaver Lake Senior's dinner which will be held at noon December 4th. We also man the phones at the Lions Telethon and later deliver toys in our area. Our annual donation helps to reach the goal so requests for toys can be filled. In our own immediate area Whitefish District Lions contribute to the food baskets delivered by the Women's Institute. Along with all local organizations we're concerned about the needs of our community.

We know that everyone is busy. If you have a LITTLE TIME to assist it would be wonderful to hear from you. Good work makes your "Heart Happy". Our motto is "We Serve". If you'd like to join us call 705-866-0159.

'CHARTER MEMBER MEMORIAL DEDICATION'

...Whitefish District Lions Club

On Saturday October 20th WHITEFISH DISTRICT LIONS CLUB and the MANNINEN family made special dedication to the late Lion Elmer (Ilmari) Manninen at WALDEN CROSS COUNTRY FITNESS CLUB. A donation of $2000.00 and a plaque were presented to Patti Kitler who runs the Para Nordic Program.

Lion Elmer was a Charter Member of the Whitefish District Lions Club for 44 years. He was a dedicated volunteer in his community and received the HELEN KELLER AWARD for highest achievement.

All of his life he participated and attended competitions in cross country skiing, running, hurtles, and curling. He was a member of Jehu Sports for the Beaver Lake Skiing Club. Being a true outdoorsman made it appropriate that we direct funds to the Para Nordic Program. He believed everyone should have the opportunity for sports.

Mrs. Astrid Manninen, her daughter Nancy and husband Bill Jacko were in attendance for the presentation. One of the young girls in training provided a demonstration and we all got to see how much hard work is involved. Mrs. Manninen was pleased that the deserving children will be able to enjoy more equipment due to the donation.

Whitefish District Lions Club have partnered with Patti Kitler and her program and look forward to a continued relationship. She and her volunteers work hard training the young people, building confidence and character. It was wonderful to meet them.

Following the demonstrations and presentation we were served a great lunch which was all homemade and extremely delicious. All of the members enjoyed the day and look forward to seeing you again.
