Penage Rd.
Community Centre ...Getting Ready for Our 29th Annual Rendezvous
A community centre has its own pulse. This happens because people come
together for events and they share their lives, raise their children and
their grandchildren and make the community what it is.
The Penage Rd. Community Centre is a non-profit organization-which
exists for the sole purpose of serving the people in the community. The
building was once a schoolhouse in Louise Township; long before Walden
had been created. It is located on Penage Rd, on the left, about 7 km
from Regional Rd. #55.
This lovely building - which is now 85 years old - will see crafters
arriving on November 18th and 19th. And these crafters and artists will
drop off their wares - which will then be set out for display. Then the
bakers will bring in their fresh baked items on November 21st.
All of this is the behind the scenes preparation for the
29th Annual Rendezvous Arts and Craft Sale.
This year the craft show will be open to the public on Nov. 21st,
from 7-9 pm; and on Nov 22 & 23 from 10 am until 4pm. There is no
entry fee. You are welcome to come and browse and stay as long as you
want.
Our items for sale this year will include: fur hats and mitts; homemade
preserves; a variety of baked items; knit items; folk art items to
decorate your homes; notes ;weaving items; items made from wood; sewn
items - such as quilted projects; pottery , photographs and paintings.
Come and enjoy some refreshments; chat with
your neighbours and just have fun! See you there!

News
on Penage Rd.
Residents on or near Penage Rd. continue to be a supportive community of
friends and neighbours. There are year round and seasonal residents, all
who appreciate the beauty of the area as well as local sporting and
fishing activities. One of the local "meeting places" is the Penage Rd.
Community Centre. This is a non profit organization and the facilities
there can be used by all.
In 2006 the Centre recognized and remembered its founding members.
In February of 1966 they launched the Penage Rd. Community Centre by
purchasing the "no longer in use" schoolhouse on Penage Rd. The funds to
do this came from their own pockets; then fund raising occurred in the
neighbourhood to pay them back. These founding members were: Keith and
Eleanor Calford, Bill and Mary Lou Gemmell, Don and Arlene Hughson, Eino
and Myra Kilpinen, Oiva and Lea Maki, Paul and Mary Salminen, Elmer and
Rita Salminen, and Oiva and Queenie Svensk. Over the years other
community members have contributed labour, monies and time to this
Centre.
Currently our rink is available for those who wish to skate. The Womens'
Institute, Seniors and Moderate Fitness classes are in full swing. If
you would like to support this Centre , now in its 41st year, mail your
membership donation to: Mrs. B. Beaulieu, 198 Grassy Lake Rd.,
Whitefish, On. P0M3EO; payable to the "Penage Rd. Community Centre" or
drop off in the Centre's mailbox on R. R. #10. Family memberships are
$20.00; and $10.00 for singles. You will be mailed your membership card.
