return year after year. And, not to be omitted, is the enjoyment of the
use of the restored school house which originated in 1933. This provides
the atmosphere of warmth and charm for all those who attend. And , don’t
forget, items sold are of good quality and reasonably priced.
There will be a variety of items to select from. These include pottery,
baking, jewelry, wood made items, fabric sewn and knit items, woven
goods, folk art items, tree ornaments, preserves, homemade soap,
notecards , and wall art, such as paintings.

The
Centre is a non-profit organization. We were incorporated in February, 1966.
Thanks to some community members with foresight the property and
building were purchased using funds from their own pocket.
Some accepted their contribution back while others did not bother.
Over the years since 1966 a variety of events have taken place.
The same enthusiasm for a local public facility exists today as it did
back in ‘66. We are still receiving compliments for the interior
improvements made in 2010. The facelift took 5 weeks of steady labour by
volunteers.
Council will determine this month what our grant for 2011 will be.
Most of those funds go to hydro, heating, phone, water testing, taxes
and insurance. Your financial support at the Rendezvous and through
membership donations helps to support our capital projects as well as
other bills that come along.
If
you wish to volunteer a few hours of your time for whatever reason
please attend the Annual General Meeting on April 5th at 7:30 at the
Centre and make a one year commitment.
The rink this winter has been well used and enjoyed by kids and adults
both. Several families have chosen to hold a birthday party at the
centre, using the rink, followed by a nice hot cup of chocolate in the
building.
Rental rates are very reasonable and are available year round.
Contact Ira-Jane at 866- 2989 for a quote.
All of your support and participation is appreciated. Thank you
community member!!
And
thank you to this year’s directors:
Terry, Russ, Nancy, Neeltje, Gary, Eric, Sheryl, Ira-Jane and our 2
Seniors reps, Laila and John.
Rendezvous Art and Craft Sale 2010
November 19 (7-9 pm); November 20 & 21
(10am-4pm)
Location: Penage Rd. Community Centre, located on Regional Rd #10 (Penage
Rd.) 7 km south off of Highway 55.
This is the 31st consecutive year for Rendezvous.
This art and craft sale has many traditions including free refreshments
and free admission.
The following handmade items will be available: pottery, photography,
paintings, folk art items, woodwork, real fur items, baking, Finn bun,
preserves, sewn and knit items, quilted items , notecards and weaving
Vendors drop off their items for sale on the Wednesday before the show
opens and then all items are put on display in an attractive
arrangement. Baking arrives throughout the show.
This show started in 1980. At that time the opening night was the "Gala"
night and invitations for that evening were sent out. Local artists were
making it known what their skills were in hopes of entering the
workforce full time for their sales. Several of the then artists are
still making wonderful art pieces that are sold far and wide.
The show has grown since then both in the number of vendors and the
number of shoppers.
This year there will be no taxes added onto the cost of the items.
Mark these dates on your calendar and plan to drop in the old
schoolhouse for Rendezvous.

Winter 2010
Hi Neighbours,
The past year at the centre has gone well. Currently membership
donations are coming in for the year 2010. We were very gratified that
107 chose to attend our DEC 6th potluck Christmas dinner. And ,of
course, your support of the Rendezvous Art and Craft Sale was superb.
This year the centre made $1550.00 at the sale and our sales for the
weekend totaled $10 500.00. The volunteers for this event are many. If
you think you would like to be a Rendezvous vendor the dates for 2010
are : Nov 19, 20 , 21. There was great support for the "All Ages Craft
Party". This event drew 40 persons and wonderful items were created by
young and old on Nov 29th. Thank you Karen!!
Here's where some additional support is needed:
1. Can you take a flea market table on May 1st? Call Nancy at 866-2229
to register. And come out to have a great chili dog made by Wendy.
2. It would be good to have more community support for our Earth Day
Penage Road/Ditch clean-up. This will be April 24th. Come at 9 am to the
centre ready to choose your 1 km of road. More info, call Gary 866-5190.
Many hands makes light work.
3. Our Mothers' Day Dinner is a FUND RAISER. Let's support this dinner!
It will be from 5 -7 pm on May 8th. You pay $10.00 ; age 5-12 pay $5.00.
Members need to bring a dish that serves 8-10. Our attendance has been
dropping so rally the troops at your place to come out and share in
recognizing MOTHERS. Call Ira-Jane to register 866-2989 by WED May 5th.
Pay at the door.
4. We REALLY need a few persons who can join as directors and make a
commitment to one meeting a month (summer off). The board must have 7
members to continue. You are therefore invited to be a director. More
info about this contact: Russ 866-5656.
Our coming director meetings are: Feb 2nd, then March 2nd and then April
6th; all starting at 7:30 pm .
5. The Penage Rd. Women's Institute meet on the 3rd Wed each month.
Contact Lesley 866-2312. "Moderate Fitness" on Thursdays, has openings
for more participants; contact June 866-2419. If you are a senior and
wish to have some fun then come-out every second Tuesday. More info call
Henry 866-2679.
This year's financial situation should be similar
to last year with a grant of $13 000. 00 from the city. Additional
revenue comes in from memberships (up to $1200.00 for the year),
Rendezvous, as stated $1550.00 this past year; donations from
individuals; and rentals.
The city grant pays for our taxes, heating , hydro, phone and insurance.
It is the additional money contributed by THE COMMUNITY that pays for
repairs, replacements and improvements. And in this old building it is a
never ending task to do needed improvements!!
Please call Terry if you can assist with painting; carpentry, plumbing,
and tasks that need to be done.(866-5728). We are hoping to make some
improvements in 2010 in the downstairs kitchen. As well some upstairs
windows may get replaced and new tables may be ordered. Our office
renovations are nearly done.
The rink is open; please come out to skate; use the floodlights at
nighttime. Our rink attendant is Kyler Pilbakka.
Brigitte is still our membership convener. Thank
you Brigitte.

News
on Penage Rd.
Residents on or near Penage Rd. continue to be a supportive community of
friends and neighbours. There are year round and seasonal residents, all
who appreciate the beauty of the area as well as local sporting and
fishing activities. One of the local "meeting places" is the Penage Rd.
Community Centre. This is a non profit organization and the facilities
there can be used by all.
In 2006 the Centre recognized and remembered its founding members.
In February of 1966 they launched the Penage Rd. Community Centre by
purchasing the "no longer in use" schoolhouse on Penage Rd. The funds to
do this came from their own pockets; then fund raising occurred in the
neighbourhood to pay them back. These founding members were: Keith and
Eleanor Calford, Bill and Mary Lou Gemmell, Don and Arlene Hughson, Eino
and Myra Kilpinen, Oiva and Lea Maki, Paul and Mary Salminen, Elmer and
Rita Salminen, and Oiva and Queenie Svensk. Over the years other
community members have contributed labour, monies and time to this
Centre.
Currently our rink is available for those who wish to skate. The Womens'
Institute, Seniors and Moderate Fitness classes are in full swing. If
you would like to support this Centre , now in its 41st year, mail your
membership donation to: Mrs. B. Beaulieu, 198 Grassy Lake Rd.,
Whitefish, On. P0M3EO; payable to the "Penage Rd. Community Centre" or
drop off in the Centre's mailbox on R. R. #10. Family memberships are
$20.00; and $10.00 for singles. You will be mailed your membership card.
