2009 CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR'S MASS SCHEDULE:

CHRISTMAS DAY: 9:30 am
NEW YEARS DAY: 9:30 am

St. Christopher's Ladies Guild Monthly Meeting: Wednesday, Dec. 9th. at 6:00 pm Pot Luck supper followed by our regular meeting.

Prayer Partners Gathering: Wednesday, December 16, 7:00 p.m. in church hall.

DIOCESAN NEWS AND EVENTS:

Holy Hour for Vocations: In the chapel of St. Joseph Residence (29 Second Ave. S.) every 3rd Wednesday.

Marriage Preparation Weekends:
Friday, January 15th (6:30 to 9:30 pm) and Saturday, January 16th (8:45 am to 5:30 pm)
Saturday, March 20 (9:00 am to 5:00 pm) and Sunday, March 21 (9:00 am to 3 pm)

Warmhearts Palliative Caregivers: are trained volunteers who comfort and support the terminally ill in their home, in hospital or care facility. Service is free. If you know someone needing palliative care, please call 677-0077.

Blood Donor Shortage: The Blood Donor Clinic needs 40 units per day to meet the needs of our hospitals (a recent clinic collected only
9 units). Help is needed. The clinic at 235 Cedar St. is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 am. to 8:00 pm.

Sacrament of Reconciliation is available before Mass each Sunday from 9:00 am - 9.25 am Speak to Mass celebrant.

Baptisms:
If you would like to have your child baptized, complete a registration form available at the church and return it in the collection plate, or call Jeanette St. Jean at 866-0155.

Funerals: To arrange funeral services, speak to priest before or after Mass or call Ray Bennett at 866-2565.

Sacrament of Marriage:
Please call the Diocesan office six months in advance 674-2727 Ext.241

Sacrament of Anointing the Sick:
Contact the Pastoral Office at any hospital.

First Reconciliation or First Communion:
Contact Pauline Tario 692-1281.

Announcements for this week.

Since Father Lionel Tanguay has been summoned back to the Timmins Diocese, we will now have one of three Redemptory Priests serving our needs at St. Christopher's. So far we have welcomed Father Alex Joseph and Father Joe. The Redemptory Fathers are from Holy Redeemer Parish and we are very pleased to have them with us.

Anyone wishing a Mass Intention, speak to someone in the office after Mass or put the request and date desired in an envelope plus $10. into the collection plate.

Non-Perishable Food Drive for the Needy: The next two Sundays, you are asked to bring in food donations.

In September 2010, St. Christopher's will celebrate it Fiftieth Anniversary! St. Christopher's Parish Council invites anyone interested in being on a planning committee to meet downstairs for coffee break after Mass on November 8th. If you do not wish to serve on a committee but would like to share some ideas on how we could celebrate this momentous occasion, please join us for coffee or speak to Pat Brunne.

Marriage Preparation Weekend: Will be held on the Saturday and Sunday weekend of November 14 and 15. (Sat. 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. and Sun. 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) Call 670-0606 for more information and to register.

Special Mass for all those living with cancer, their caregivers and family members will be celebrated on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 3:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Hope Church, 591 Brennan Rd. Bishop Plouffe is the celebrant and Homolist. The Sacrament of the Sick will be administered. Refreshments following Mass.

Breast Cancer Conference given by Dr. Claire Perrault, general surgeon, Oct. 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Ste. Agnes Church in Azilda. Call 983-2096 for information.

During the month of November, our Catholic schools are celebrating the virtue of Justice. Each school will focus on the aspects of fairness, righteousness and social justice. Please pray for the staff and students as they explore this virtue.

First Reconciliation and First Communion:
Registration Forms are now available at the back of the church. Both sacraments are for Grade 3 students. The deadline for registrations is October 31, with a parents meeting to follow. Call Pauline Tario at 692-1281 for further information.

Spiritual Bouquet

For the next two Sundays, Oct. 18 and 25th, there will be an opportunity for parishioners to sign a pledge offering a spiritual bouquet which will be sent to Father Tanguay. A spiritual bouquet is a card indicating that the senders will undertake certain devotional acts on behalf of that person. There is no need to sign your name, only indicate the act and date you will carry it out. Examples would be a decat of the rosary, 5 Lord's Prayers, or any prayer. The list along with a card will be sent to Father Tanguay.


Non-perishable Food Drive:

The next two Sundays you are asked to bring food donations for the Food Bank.

The Cemetery Walk and Pot Luck Supper will be Sunday, Nov. 1st.

Operation Christmas Child:
Please pick up a Christmas Box at the entrance and return it by Sunday, November 15th.

Additional Readers at Mass are needed:
Men are especially absent from this service. Please note your name and phone no. on bulletin board or contact Pauline Tario if you wish to volunteer.

Residential Hospice Care Training:
Maison Vale Inco Hospice is offering a 30 hour Palliative Care Training course beginning the weekend of Oct. 2 (in English) and Nov. 6 (in French). Contact Sylvie at 674-9252 ext. 231.

Year of the Priests Celebration:
Tickets for the Priest's Dinner at the Caruso Club are sold out. However everyone is welcome to attend the special Mass planned for Wednesday, October 14 at 4:00 p.m. in St. Anne's Church to celebrate and honour priests in our Diocese.

St. Vincent de Paul Society is looking for people willing to give a few hours weekly to help in their new thrift store which will open soon.
