WALDEN SNO RUNNERS

The Walden Sno Runners will be 20 years old this year. In December of 1987 a group of local snowmobilers got together to form the local snowmobile club to develop and maintain local trails and promote safe family activities involving the sport of snowmobiling. As part of the Sudbury Trail Plan, the club maintains and patrols about 90 kms of trails from the north end of Fairbank lake to Penage Lake and the south end of Whitewater  Lake to Lively and between.

On November 29th the club is celebrating 20 years of activity in our community with a dinner dance at the Lively Golf and Country Club. Tickets that are coincidentally $20, can be purchased from a club member in your area or by contacting Stan Fenton at stanfenton@gmail.com .

Hawks for Heart Event Raises $4,500!

Lively District Secondary School Students were out in force in the community on February 21st canvassing local businesses and kicking off the Heart and Stroke Campaign for Lively and Walden Areas.

Mayor John Rodruiguez inspired students - kicking off the activites by making a personal donation. Celina MacKinnon and her family shared their story and gave their support of the campaign throughout the morning. News Anchor and Chair of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Michelle Toner joined in- to praise to the student body for their efforts on behalf of this very worthwhile cause.

On their walk through Lively, students were accompanied by: Fire Chief Donaldson, Volunteer Fire Fighter Perry, Deputy Police Chief Elsner, Auxiliary Constable Brunette, EMS Gary Daily and Laura Carlson of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Sirens and lights from the accompanying Fire Engine, Police Cruiser and EMS Vehicles held the student body united in their campaign. Many thanks to this auspicious group of community supporters – we couldn’t have done it without you!

The Business Community of Lively and Walden responded to the students’ call for action by pouring in support and raising $4,500.00 for the Heart and Stroke Campaign!

Many thanks to the following businesses for supporting this worthwhile cause – and for supporting Lively DSS students’ initiative in this endeavor: Powertel Utilities, Laamanen Construction. Harris Rebar, The Huddle, Jim’s Portable Toilets, Equipment North,Battistelli’s YIG, Walden Home Hardware, Lively Pharmacy, Northern Welding Cases, The Shop, Castec Inc., Tim Horton’s, Meadowbrook Retirement Village, Pet Food Plus, Pine Hill Lumber, Royal Bank, TD Bank, Walden Family Drug Store, Walden Day Care Centre, Forget-Me-Not Flowers, Carman Construction, CCM Group Management, NAPA Auto, Quickway, A&L Construction, Auburn Industrial, Algonquin Equipment and Lively Massage Therapy Clinic.

As always, our Hawks for Heart Event was supported and promoted by our very own Councilor, Jacques Barbeau. Not to be outdone by the Mayor, Mr. Barbeau provided donations as prizes for the top canvassers!

Thanks to everyone for a real community event. Hats off to Lively and Walden! We stood together and made a difference for the “heart” of the community. Congratulations Everyone! Judy Noble, Principal, Lively DSS

Students from Lively District Secondary School will be out in full force in their surrounding communities this Thursday, February 21st canvassing local businesses for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. They will be accompanied by Greater Sudbury Mayor John Rodriguez and City Councillor Jacques Barbeau along with representatives of the Greater Sudbury Police Service and the Greater Sudbury Fire Service.

ìThe leading cause of death in Ontario is heart disease and stroke,î says Lively District Secondary School Principal Judy Noble. ìLively District Secondary School is pleased to help raise awareness and funds for continued research.î

On February 21st, Lively District Secondary School will be calling on the business sector from 9:50 am to 10:20 am. ìEach homeroom of 25 students has been assigned one business from which to canvass,î explains Principal Noble. ìIf we are able to canvass 25 businesses ñ and we hope that more will join in ñ we could raise in excess of $3,000 for Heart and Stroke research. What a tremendous contribution from the community of LIvely and Walden, with young people and business leaders working together to support a common cause!î

Following the visit to area businesses, everyone will return to Lively District Secondary School for a cheque presentation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The event will end with a celebratory barbecue for the business community and canvassers.
