Walden Minor Soccer Association
Walden Minor Soccer Association is a
volunteer organization in the Walden area that organizes recreational
soccer for children and youth aged 4-18. In
2009, close to 800 kids played soccer in Lively, Naughton and Whitefish.
Many more people, including the WMSA Executive, youth referees, sponsors
and more than 100 volunteer coaches help make the season possible.
WMSA is offering registration for the 2010 season at the following dates
and locations:
- Saturday March 13/2010 - 10 am to 3 pm - Walden arena (upstairs)
- Saturday March 20/2010 - 10 am to 3 pm - Walden arena (upstairs)
- Saturday March 27/2010 - 10 am to 3 pm - Lively High School rear

- Saturday April 3/2010 - 10 am to 3 pm - Lively Library complex
- Saturday May 1/2010 - 10 am to 3 pm - Lively Library complex - LATE
REGISTRATIONS ONLY
Registration forms will be available in March at Battistelli's YIG.
New players to WMSA will be required to provide a copy of a birth
certificate or health card for insurance purposes. All returning players
are not required to provide proof of date of birth. Registration forms
must be signed by the parent or legal guardian of the child.
Registration fees are $75 per child, and include full uniform (jersey,
shorts, socks), team and individual photo, trophy and year end banquet.
The season consists of approximately 20 games and practices. Late
registration fees are regular price plus $10.
Please note that registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
WMSA has run waiting lists in several age divisions over the past few
years, so we encourage everyone to register early to guarantee a spot
for your child. WMSA must unfortunately limit the size of certain
divisions due to the number of fields available in the Walden area.

Soccer is Alive and Well in Walden!
For anyone driving by the
Hillcrest Field complex in Lively on a weeknight, you know that soccer
is alive and well in Walden.
This summer, close to 800 kids play soccer in Lively, Naughton and
Whitefish on 48 teams. Many more people, including the Walden Minor
Soccer Association (WMSA) Executive, youth referees, sponsors and more
than 100 volunteer coaches help make the season possible. WMSA is the
third largest soccer club in the City of Greater Sudbury.
Our season started on May 21 and finishes with our year-end banquet on
Saturday August 15. All our kids receive team photos, full uniforms and
trophies when they register with WMSA. The banquet is an opportunity to
celebrate all our players’ efforts over the season and to thank our
dedicated coaches who make soccer fun and possible in Walden. All
coaches are parent volunteers who step forward to teach future soccer
players the game in a fun, supportive environment.
Our Under 18 division, with two teams, plays with teams in Espanola and
Rayside-Balfour. Our other divisions play teams within WMSA – our next
smallest divisions, Under 15 and Under 12, have six teams each. Our
largest division, Under 6, has 15 teams (240 kids) in 2009.
WMSA encourages fair play in a friendly sporting environment where
learning the sport and enjoying the company of friends is paramount. We
do not subscribe to creating an intensely competitive environment but
instead want to see all participants back the following year, having fun
and getting plenty of exercise.

A WORD FROM THE WMSA EXECUTIVE
Dear Parents,
This year we have more than 800 young people playing on 50 teams. It
takes a tremendous amount of work to run a league of this size. All the
work is undertaken by volunteers. We would encourage all families to
assist in some way in helping to make the league run successfully.
Please take the time to thank your coaches for their time and effort to
make the season a great one for your child.
We encourage fair play in a friendly sporting environment where learning
the sport and enjoying the company of friends as well as finding new
friends is paramount. We do not subscribe to creating an intensely
competitive environment but instead want to see all participants back
the following year and having fun as well as getting plenty of exercise.
We trust that all parents, players and coaches alike will help support
our ideals. Most of all, we hope everybody has fun.
Thank you to the more than 100 coaches that have made this season
possible, to our many sponsors for your continued support of
recreational soccer in Walden, and to the executive members who
organized teams, trained referees, check the hotline, recruit sponsors,
maintain fields and equipment, and other administrative duties.
Thank you for your support for Walden Minor Soccer. Should you have any
questions or concerns, please feel free to leave a message on the Walden
Minor Soccer hotline (626-9696) and someone will get back to you as soon
as possible.

Not sure about the weather?
Check the WMSA Hotline.
Although we try to ensure that all games are played, cancellations are
required at times. Although every effort will be made to give adequate
notice, sometimes this isn't possible. Games are generally cancelled due
to the following conditions:
Heavy or torrential rain (more likely in the younger age groups) which
has been persistent during the hours preceding the game.
Thunderstorms which are imminent or threatening.
Extreme heat or very high humidity levels.
Too few players in one or both teams.
In the event of air quality advisories, unless noticeably poor at the
field locations, the games will be played. We advise parents of players
who may have difficulties in these conditions to use their discretion as
a parent whether or not to have you child participate on that particular
evening.
